The Helix Smart Radio operates at 1625-2500 MHz and is powered by our patented Mesh Rider® technology. Driven by the needs of UAVs and UGVs, it has been designed for minimal size and weight, and can be used to stream HD video 20+ km away.

Six Federal and ISM Bands in a Single Radio

Helix operates on six bands (M1-M6) within 1625-2500 MHz, which provides global coverage so systems can be deployed without requiring multiple SKUs. This frequency range removes a large operational complexity for government customers who have deployments around the world. Moreover, 2.4 GHz ISM band is also covered to further increase the global coverage. The Helix radio incorporates six different band filtering schemes, one for each band to provide maximum protection against the interference.

Tiny Form Factor

Minimal size and weight was a driving consideration during the design phase. The Helix Smart Radio consists of two boards (Baseband and RF boards) that can be mounted in a variety of configurations within the chassis to meet different system’s space and thermal management considerations.

Powered by Mesh Rider

Like all Smart Radios, Helix is powered by Doodle Labs’ patented Mesh Rider technology. Many features have been designed specifically for the unmanned vehicle use case, such as optimized channels to carry command & control and video traffic. Range extension and swarming are facilitated by a dynamic mesh. 

With Helix’s wide frequency range, a number of dual-band permutations become possible when using two radios on a system. Communication can be configured to be redundant to ensure connectivity if one band is jammed. Sub-networks can be created within swarms of drones. Video can be multicast to multiple users and control of the vehicle can easily be passed from one user to another.

The Helix Smart Radio is an addition to the widely deployed Smart Radio platform. It can be seamlessly used with the Wearable, Embedded, and External form factors to deploy the Mesh Rider private wireless network that connects men and machines.

Core Radio for Leading Ecosystems

Development of Helix Smart Radio is supported by the DoD’s Defense Innovation Unit to be used by unmanned systems across the US Government. It is a core radio in the Blue UAS Architecture and is verified to be compatible with a number of UAS components, such as QGroundControl, Auterion and UXV Technologies.
