Teal Drones / Red Cat made waves at the AUSA 2024 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington DC, announcing its new ARACHNID family of ISR and precision-strike drones and introducing the Black Widow, the highly-anticipated successor to Teal 2.

Black Widow is a rucksack portable UAS designed specifically for operation in Electronic Warfare (EW) environments. It was specifically developed for the U.S. Army’s SRR Program of Record.

Black Widow leverages an on-board Doodle Labs Helix Nano Mesh Rider Radio as its datalink and Sense anti-jamming technology to counter jamming and interference in battlefield and public safety settings.

Red Cat also introduced a new Ground Control Station, WEB (Warfighter Electronic Bridge) that is capable of operating Red Cat’s entire ARACHNID family of systems for military operations. When paired with Black Widow, WEB leverages a Helix Mini Mesh Rider Radio from Doodle Labs.

“When we’re thinking about what we need in a datalink, it always comes down to a few core functionalies, ” said Teal Founder and Red Cat CTO George Matus. “Range, throughput, resilience in contested environments, encryption and security and then, very important to small drones, is size, weight and power. Doodle Labs checked all those boxes for Teal in a way that other manufacturers have not yet.”
