Global aerospace company achieves 116-kilometer data link in a mobile, aerial environment using Mesh Rider Radio.

Aerospace company Paramount Advanced Technologies achieved a 116-kilometer data link in a test flight using Doodle Labs’ Mesh Rider Radio in a mobile, aerial environment.

An off-the-shelf S-Band Mesh Rider Radio, RM-2250-2H-XS was used, which operates between 2.2 – 2.3 GHz and has 2 Watts (33 dBm) of output power. The radios were coupled with only a small 3 dBi antenna on the aircraft and a 23 dBi directional antenna on the ground station. The Mesh Rider Radios were able to provide 300 Kbps throughput at 116 Km distance as a small Cessna aircraft carried the flight test box out into the horizon.

Paramount Advanced Technologies is a subsidiary of Paramount Group, a global aerospace and technology company founded in South Africa.

“We had designed the Mesh Rider Radio to be capable of very long-distance communication and this is a very important field validation,” said Ashish Parikh, VP of Business Development at Doodle Labs. “Kudos are certainly due to the Paramount team for their system design and skill in utilizing the Mesh Rider Radio effectively.

Evangelos Petropoulos

GM of Autonomous Systems at Paramount.

“We’re excited about integrating the Mesh Rider Radio into our systems as it provides the best price and performance we’ve encountered in a radio. The Doodle Labs team has been a pleasure to work with.”
