Cellular operators the world over are facing a common structural problem in their businesses. Traffic growth is outstripping the capacity of their network deployments, making it difficult in some cases even to hold an uninterrupted mobile phone conversation during rush hour. In addition, operators are under pressure to offer faster data speeds to keep up with their customers’ insatiable demand for data intensive applications.
Consequently, Cellular operators are currently looking at every possible way to bolster the network capacity. The small cells (Pico cells and micro cells) are emerging as the best solution to increase the network capacity and better use their existing spectrum resources. Mobile operators are planning their networks as a combination of macro cells and an ‘underlay’ network of smaller micro and Pico cells. In order to achieve the capacity density required by rapidly rising mobile Internet bandwidth demand, large number of these small cells are required in a given area.

However, one of the biggest challenges in deploying small cells is figuring out how to cost-effectively backhaul the traffic from those small cell sites. The cost of running fiber to these large number of small cell sites is prohibitively expensive. The concept of meshed wireless backhaul is the likely winner. So after decades of relying on fiber for backhaul, it appears that wireless operators are finally turning to wireless backhaul to handle their small cell traffic. As per the market research reports, about 80 percent of the small cells will be connected using the wireless backhaul in the unlicensed and licensed band. In order to optimize the capacity of the backhaul network, Mesh nodes use multiple radios operating on different frequencies.

Doodle Labs offers an extensive line of best-in-class embedded OFDM radio transceivers that operate within the 200 MHz to 6 GHz frequency range and span applications in many industry verticals. They feature the state-of-the-art, spectrum-efficient OFDM technology for Near Line of Sight (NrLOS) operation and high data throughput. In addition, our transceivers employ the Doodle Labs' proprietary (patent pending) PrismTM technology to achieve the industry’s best RF characteristics in terms of interference immunity, Tx power, Rx sensitivity and data throughput. The PrismTM radios are small and lightweight. They consume low power and they are designed to operate in the most demanding environments. These radios enable new HD video streaming applications for the law enforcement, military and security operations in the most challenging environments.
In summary, the PrismTM line of radios have redefined the capabilities of wireless mesh backhaul applications. The PrismTM radio performance is unmatched when operating deep within urban, concrete and steel structures in non-line-of-sight operations.
